Kids are cruel; I was “the Heating, Ventilation & A/C kid” all through highcollege

When people talk about the best years of their lives & all of the superb experiences that they had growing up, I don’t know how to relate.

I simply didn’t have any experience like that.

I grew up in a fairly wealthy & privileged part of town. Most of the teenagers that I attended college with belong to lawyers & nurses. Their families were harshly well-off & they were thrilled to show it. They constantly had the newest clothes, on the coolest gadgets, & the fastest cars. On the other hand, I came from a family of purple-collar workers. My dad was a central heating & cooling professional for over 20 years. It was disappointing enough that he correctly dropped me off for college in the heating & cooling toil trucks that he drove around to residential Heating, Ventilation & A/C service appointments each afternoon. It was even worse that he was the personal heating & cooling professional for many of the families in town. A lot of the teenagers that I went to college with called my dad dirty & disgusting as he tried to repair their forced air furnaces & a/c units. They saw him crawling around under their dwelling & he was often covered in grease from the broken Heating, Ventilation & A/C equipment. For my entire high college career, I was referred to as the Heating, Ventilation & A/C kid. Anytime there was an indoor air temperature concern at the college, almost everyone singled me out & started telling me to call my dad. Well, the joke is on them. Today I am a professional Heating, Ventilation & A/C repairman making excellent money at my job… & I refuse to service any of the wealthy homes on that side of town.
