I wanted a metal roof put on the house, but they said metal roofs weren’t allowed in the by-laws
Living in a homeowner’s association doesn’t give us a lot of leeway on how our house repairs are done… Everything has to be done exactly to the HOAs rules. If repairs are done to the outside of the home, you need to have a maintenance person who works for the HOA do the house repairs. I definitely hated being under their thumb, and had I known how exacting they were, I would not have bought the house. Being the homeowner, I thought I could do my own repairs. I thought I could paint my household with whatever color I chose. I thought I could do household improvements and house improvements whenever and however I wished. I was thinking all wrong, and wasn’t sure how I was going to get away from them. I still had ten years of mortgage payments to go, and no one wanted to pay the price for the household that I needed to buy another home. The homeowner’s association had an excellent maintenance person that did all the house repairs, but he was getting older. I needed some major repairs done, and I couldn’t hire someone the HOA didn’t approve of. I tried to tell them the old maintenance person couldn’t get up on the roof and fix the tiles. I wanted a metal roof put on the house, but they said metal roofs weren’t allowed in the by-laws. I told them to hang their HOA by-laws for real. I was going to hire someone to do the house repairs and if they didn’t like it, they could purchase the household at my price and sell it. I was done with their crap.
