Our home is a little oddly shaped.
Please don’t misunderstand what I mean.
I’m extremely fortunate to be able to call this house my home because it is fantastic. The shape of our house has also caused a heating and cooling issue that took me some time to resolve. Our house is sort of sprawling and on one level. This resulted from the previous owners adding wings to the main or original part of the house. We have a large family, so having these additions helps with space and privacy, which is why I love that we have them. However, now that I work from home full-time, I deal with a lack of cooling for a large portion of the year. We reside in the south, where heating is not particularly necessary. And the heat pump more than suffices for what we do need. However, my office is exposed on three sides, located at the end of one of the additions, and receives sunlight all day. Since we have excellent heating and cooling systems, it is not the HVAC system. Simply put, the constant direct sunlight heating causes my end of the house to become significantly hotter during the summer. Even though I kept the shades closed, which is a help, I couldn’t achieve the same level of cooling as the rest of the house until I had a ductless heat pump installed by the HVAC technicians. The HVAC company is to be commended for helping to resolve this issue. Thanks to the ductless heat pump, working in my home office is now incredibly cozy.
