My sister has always been a bit old-fashioned and hates anything tech-related. So when I convinced her to buy a smart thermostat for our home, I was met with a lot of resistance. I thought it would make her life easier, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. The first time she tried to use it, she ended up calling me in a panic. Apparently, the device had stopped working and she didn’t know how to get it going again. I had to explain to her that all she had to do was reset it by unplugging it and plugging it back in. This simple task was too much for her and she was convinced that the smart thermostat was evil and out to get her. From then on, every time she tried to use it, she would end up frustrated and angry. She would curse and yell at the device. It was hilarious to watch, but also a bit sad because I could see how much she was struggling with it. One day, I decided to take matters into my own hands and programmed the thermostat for her. I thought she would be happy that she wouldn’t have to struggle with it anymore. However, when she saw what I had done, she was livid. She accused me of messing with her thermostat and making it even more complicated. Since then, she has refused to use the smart thermostat and has gone back to using a simple dial thermostat. Every time I try to convince her to give the smart thermostat another chance, she just scoffs and tells me that technology is not for her. I feel bad for her because she’s missing out on the convenience it provides.
