Sometimes, the answers are just right in front of you. That was certainly the case when my wife and I found ourselves in an immediate financial crunch. Of course, many of us are still dealing with the financial impact of the pandemic and the following inflation explosion. But at least my wife and I are both back to work inside the commercial HVAc of our offices. For my wife, it’s a new office and she even has a thermostat of her own. But shortly after we were sent home to work remotely inside the central air conditioning of our home, my wife lost her job. More accurately, the company my wife worked for folded. And that was essentially half of our income. On top of that, for the pleasure of keeping my job and working in my own air conditioning, I had to take a pay cut. We were looking at not being able to make the mortgage. After a brief panic, the answer was right there in front of us. We decided to finish off the basement and rent it as a one bedroom apartment. The HVAC company came in to provide the quality heating and air. There is a ductless heat pump in the new apartment that is such amazing and high quality residential HVAC. By turning our basement into a rental, we were able to have some mortgage insurance and ride out our tough money crunch. Now that my wife has a new job, we decided to just keep going with having a renter. It works out great and we’ve got a really nice lady down there as well.
