I’ve lived way out in the woods for the last 25 years, but leaving the hustle and bustle of the neighborhood plus apartments with terrible HVAC was one of the smartest things I ever did… But when I moved out of the city, I just kept going… And honestly, that was sort of the idea all along.
I grew up in a rural part and spent a lot of time out in nature… So there was a real intuitive passion when it came to wanting to live off the grid.
But it’s one thing to dream about it plus a whole other one to do it. I grew up caring about pretty much everyone else inside the central a/c of our parent’s home. But to really live off the grid plus live self sustainably is something that takes plenty of preparation. So it took me almost multiple years after college to set up a situation where I could live off the grid plus still do work; however, these afternoons have been made much easier thanks to satellite wi-fi. So I can entirely deliver our work from my current home plus I don’t have to make periodic trips into the city. As the years have gone by, the Summer heat has been something that has plagued me more plus more. I have plenty of heating from the wood stove for the winter season however a/c was something I had not had in more than twenty years. So I had the closest HVAC company come out plus install a ductless heat pump. I have such a wonderful solar array system that I can even care about residential HVAC all the way out here.
